Salovia’s New UI

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Salovia has basically been idling along in WoW lately. I hop on every day to cycle auctions and run HTOC for Neiran, but that’s about it. I mainly play to raid since we’re at the top of our game (though we’re far from end game). So what’s a bored tank to do? I have a bajillion badges and don’t need any more tank or holy pieces so there’s no need to grind badges. I got my red proto drake a while ago, so I’m not really gunning for heroics like I used to be. Well, what else could I do?

Add-ons 0_o

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I’ve had a few questions about what add-ons I use after I posted that arena video so Tib suggested I just list them here.

For button bars I used to use Bongos2 but the author dropped it so I use bartender4 now.  All the wonky pictures you see showing up on my screen are from an add on called power auras, I had to track this down because as a shaman I tended to forget that my elemental shield went down so I needed a big in my face reminder that it was active.   An old add-on that has turned out to be a really great one is an old one called “Jim’s cooldown pulse” it pulses the picture of the spell that just finished its CD up on the screen.  I used to use natur enemy cast bars until blizz broke it, that was a nice one for letting you know when your enemy had used CDs.

I also use Mappy, Elkanos buff bars, Miks scrolling battle text, Quartz cast bars, and healbot, for some toons I still use Xperl unit frames but for some I don’t, it can still be buggy and at this time pitbull is a resource hog.  I’ve tried grid but its not visual enough for me.  I also use visual heal so that I can transmit my healbot outgoing heal data to users of other mods like pitbull. I used to use Chaman2 for totem stuff but that didn’t end up getting an update for wrath so I moved to totem timers and am fairly happy with it so far.   I also use a few macros to condense down keys a bit, I have lightning and chain lightning on the same button for example, one one right click one on left, a few self target cast macros for keybinding cleansings, shields and general save my ass duty with natures swiftness + big heal.  Anyhew thats about it for my list =p laters n stuff.

WoW Armory Browser Addon(s)

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I find myself wanting to do quick searches of people I run into in the game on the Armory system. I’m pretty lazy, so instead of doctoring a URL or doing a manual search I made up my own little armory search engine thingy for the Firefox search bar.

Truthiness Exodar Armory Search

For some reason, when I was testing, the search engine installed just fine the first time, but after that, I keep getting an error saying Firefox can’t find the file at the location or some such nonsense. the file is there and I was only able to find on the Internet that it has something to do with Firefox caching something. Hopefully it’s not just a tease. If no one else can get it to work, I’ll investigate.

Also, I’ve been using Google’s Chrome browser a lot lately and here’s how you add the armory search to the Chrome bar:

  1. Right-click the chrome url bar.
  2. Select ‘Edit search engines…”
  3. Press ‘Add’
  4. Name: ‘Armory: Exodar’
  5. Keyword: ‘wow’
  6. Url: ‘http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Exodar&n=%s’
  7. Click ok.
  8. In the Chrome bar, type something like: ‘wow lolotov’, you should be taken to my armory page.
  9. Not a big deal, but now armory’ing peeps when looking for PUGs will be that much quicker.

ArkInventory Bug

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I recently downloaded ArkInventory to try instead of Bagnon. I love Bagnon because it’s tight and fast, simple to config and setup, works across all my toons and tells me who has what per each item. ArkInventory seems to do all of that, except maybe the tight and fast part. However, it does have osmething which I found lacking in Bagnon: visual organization. I use Itemrack to handle my gear sets and on Lolotov it was no big deal: PVP and PVE. I had a ‘crit stacking’ set, but never really equipped it - anyway, the point is that with only two sets, swapping gear just meant that Itemrack used the items and swapped out the gear peices in the same slots on the bag.

With Salovia, I have a few different sets, Healing, Main Tank, Trash, and some other miscellaneous peices that I use situationally. Anyway, it was becoming a nightmare to handle bag slots. I have 55 slots in my bags devoted to gear I’m -NOT- wearing. Anyway, so ArkInventory allows you to setup miscellaneous bags and sort things visually - throwing classes and types of items into the same visual region. It also allows you to create Rules… or it is supposed to. I couldn’t figure out how to create my own Rules… so I fixed the addon :P

For some reason the author commented out some pretty crucial addon functionality when he committed his last build: Searching bags and creating rules were not accessible from the UI or the command line. Anyway here is the fix:

Just (back up your old file first!) replace your file with the one I’ve linked. Look in

/Interface/AddOns/ArkInventory/ArkInventory.xml

Tah-dah! Now I’m off to create rules for my shit. If you need help or whatever, just let me know.
