Wrath, Tailoring and Lolotov
Why should I keep tailoring (or enchanting for that matter)? There is nothing there that I can’t get with gold. The tailor-only leg enchants are cheaper than the regular leg enchants, but no stronger. The cloak enchants are so far laughable and proc based (DPS based on RNG, gotta love it).
The flying carpet is sweet.
Everything else is BOE and buyable. Not to mention Tailoring is requiring three time the mats that BC Tailoring required. Even with cloth scavenging, I don’t feel like I have loads of cloth. I blew through 400+ pieces of cloth to reach 394 the other day.
What the hell is the point? Why not go BS and JC: extra sockets of BOP gem goodness. What about the leatherworking wrist enchants that blow naything else out of the water? I’m having my doubts about enchanting as well. As a DPS caster, +24sp per ring is the benefit of enchanting, or +48sp total. Leatherworking gets +67sp on their wrists.
Then there’s the PVP side: Alchemist only arena potions. Letting professions play into arenas is a shitty idea, but why not take alchemy then? They already have awesome trinkets.
So back to tailoring, why should I keep it? I’m 99% sure that I will, for a couple of reasons: I’ve had it for so long and I have a few rare patterns (which are now out of date :P). I don’t want those to be wasted really. The other reason is that there might be more down the line. Blizzard has said that they don’t like the idea of people taking professions solely to have the ‘best in slot’ items (sunwell robe/gloves, FSW starter set, etc.) and that they would rather people take professions that they enjoy.
Dear Blizzard, Not a lot of people enjoy the ‘work’ of the profession. Grinding out useless crap until capped (or just about capped) and able to bang out a few epic patterns for yourself is hardly fun. There are some people and some things that are not so bad, like JC - It’s a fun profession - everyone needs gems, and everything you make will be useful to someone. For the most part, professions are a pretty shitty necessity. I like working for good stuff, but I don’t want the work to be miserable.
So anyway again, why should I keep tailoring?

I thought you couldn’t pot in arenas?
Also keep in mind that we haven’t seen any BOP dropped patterns yet (assuming there will still be any). I would wait until they release endgame content to decide for sure.
Also keep in mind that, for a while, you’ll basically have a passive income from making specialty cloth and selling it on the AH.

You can’t use pots in arenas, but alchemists can make BOP pots that are specially sanctioned for arena use:

Notice that they never run out and are on cooldown timers (instead of combat timers like other pots now).
I doubt that there will be BOP patterns from higher end raiding due to the comment about blizzard not wanting people to take a profession simply because it provides a ‘best in slot’ item. I hope that there ARE incentives to keep tailoring other than BOP patterns and such, but I don’t know what those would be. I’m kind of surprised tailors didn’t get the parachute-esque perk themselves.
edit: and you’re right about passive income, assuming the cloth sells for a profit. I’m just having a hard time justifying levelling tailoring up at the moment. Even after hording cloth on two toons, I still can’t level tailoring up to my ‘level’. Things I make are still not upgrades for the gear I’m wearing from BC. I realize that’s not the common case, and that they very well might be upgrades for people levelling straight from 68+.

Some say this is one of the best cloaks until late end game raiding. Of course you do have to achieve Northredn Loremaster. I don’t like that it doesn’t have Sta or Int, but the other stuff is nice.

That cape is BOE. I can just buy it from someone.
I feel extra whiney because I don’t know what I prefer: very good rewards that are profession-based, or none what-so-ever. Very good rewards that are profession based require that profession to get the rewards obviously, which sucks when you’re gearing up and find that the engineering caster dps helm blows anything you’ve gotten frmo a drop out of the water. On that same note, I wore my FSQ and Spellstrike set for AGES.

hehe Mizz. That is funny. I will readily admit that I get a good portion of my knowledge from wowinsider, but I actually saw someone post on the realm forums that they could make it so I looked it up.
And Tov that Spellstrike set was pretty dern bad ass. I was jealous that I couldnt get the bonus from the set. Is there anything like that currently? If not maybe they will introduce some new goodies. It is still early.
